You might have noticed, if you follow us on Instagram, that I (Lucy) have been racing around all over the place recently – Sydney! Gippsland! Philip Island! However, one of the most memorable destinations I’ve had the great fortune to visit recently has been Flinders Island, a spectacularly beautiful island just off the North East Coast of Tasmania.
Along with my family, I was lucky to stay at Wombat Lodge, a cozy three bedroom farm stay property, located on a working cattle farm in rugged, beautiful Killiecrankie, towards the top end of the island. We spent a weekend exploring this truly remarkable part of Australia (that despite its remoteness, is only a one hour flight from Melbourne) and I’m happy report that all three of us came away totally smitten!
On an eight acre property nestled in a deep valley along the flank of Mount Witheren in Canungra, South East Queensland, is a slice of pure heaven. Pretty Produce is the multi-award winning chemical-free flower farm of Simone and Dave Jelley, where they grow and sell fresh produce and edible flowers to top restaurants around the country, and to customers through their online store. But it was only eight years ago that Simone was working in a completely different field (so to speak!).
Here, Simone takes us on a tour of Pretty Produce, her pride and joy, and tells us the story.
When Alexander &CO were engaged to alter and extend an interwar bungalow in Sydney’s North Shore, two key sources of inspiration came to mind. Interested in exploring a contemporary Australian style, the designers looked to the current work of Queensland architects Vokes and Peters, combined with influences of 20th-century architect Louis Kahn.
The resulting home features much of the original property, before a ‘hidden’ sculptural two-storey annexe at the rear. Courageous in its exploration of scale, the house showcases three distinct but beautifully combined design languages: the inward-facing existing front of the home, the openness of the downstairs extension, and new sanctuary above.
Searching for your dream property can come with many compromises… location, size, price! But for interior designer Karin Altman, being able to see the potential in a home that was outside of her initial vision has resulted in a dream house!
Karin shares her ‘comfortably minimal’ Glen Iris home with daughters Milla (9) and Gia (7) and their cats Pepper and Zizi.
