Sisters and stylists Emma Read and Sarah Hall of Read & Hall have created some seriously special properties in their day, from their own personal homes (see here and here!) to their first accomodation in Marion Bay.
The pair’s latest project, Love & Mutiny, is no exception. Located in the small village of Chinaman Wells (about two hours from Adelaide on the western coastline of Yorke Peninsula), this relaxed holiday home has been created especially to encourage slowing down, unwinding, and taking in those incredible water views!
Filled with vintage charm and little luxuries, you’ll never want to leave this adorable pink shack!
Entering Petrina Burrill‘s Ivanhoe garden is like stepping into another world – as close to Narnia as you can get in suburban Melbourne. It’s a complete sensory experience that makes your jaw drop, your eyes widen, and your heart swell.
Petrina’s garden is, in fact, a suburban, sustainable micro flower farm. Here, she creates beautiful hand-picked bouquets for friends and strangers, bringing joy to all who stumble across her little patch of heaven.
Jess Dempsey knew her dream house when she saw it, but it took a lot of work to get it to ‘forever home’ status! The fashion stylist and influencer lived in this Edwardian-era residence in Armadale for eight years while she worked through two iterations of renovation plans, determined to get everything just right for her young family.
Finally, with the help of interior architect and designer, Cassandra Walker, and bathroom and kitchen fixtures from Reece, this sophisticated and elegant home was restored to its former glory. Contemporary grandeur at its finest!
Today we kick off our annual tradition of revisiting the BEST OF stories of 2021! First up – we’re returning to the most popular Australian Homes we featured over the past twelve months. And boy, did we uncover some gems this year!
In between multiple lockdowns and ever-changing restrictions, we managed to shoot so many homes from across the country, from a restored mid-century house overlooking the Great Ocean Road, to a renovation of a ‘90s Tuscan-style villa in Fremantle, and a former boarding house in inner-city Melbourne.
The following properties were our most-read homes stories from the entire year – let’s get into it!
