This home in Hendra, Brisbane is equally nostalgic and contemporary, fusing influences of the original 1950s design, the Arts and Crafts movement, and surrounding suburban character.
Navigating site restrictions and the desires of the young family owners, designers Wrightson Stewart and architect Barbara Bailey reinvented the existing post-war house alongside an elevated extension.
The result is a contemporary home that’s perfectly tailored to the occupants, while remainley entirely respectful of the existing streetscape.
Oh boy, this house is AMAZING! A mid-century gem in Mount Martha designed by none other than Karl Fender (now one half of Fender Katsalidis!).
Katie Brannaghan and husband Ian, a dentist in Melbourne, purchased this property in 2017, and undertook some massive renovations to revive this modernist marvel. The house is now occasionally listed on airbnb, but act quickly if you are keen to stay – the lush green carpet and gently curving pool is mostly reserved for family getaways with the couple’s daughters Milla (12) and Yvie (9). The Fender weekender!
The Featherston House is one of Melbourne’s most architecturally-significant homes, having been designed by Robin Boyd for the prolific design duo, Grant and Mary Featherston.
What most people don’t realise, is that this 1969 Ivanhoe house has been constantly evolving in line with new technologies, allowing Boyd’s vision to be fully realised.
The most recent updates have been completed by Grant and Mary’s son and daughter-in-law, Julian and Vicky Featherston, co-founders of multi-disciplinary consultancy Two Feathers, who now live here with their two children Elka (9) and Otto (6). (Mary also lives next door in a ‘granny flat’ designed by Julian, adjoining the main house.)
This is SUCH an incredible house, and we’re so honoured to be sharing the sensitively-renovated main house in its current iteration for the very first time! (AND we also made a video – scroll down to watch!)
