Oh boy, this house is AMAZING! A mid-century gem in Mount Martha designed by none other than Karl Fender (now one half of Fender Katsalidis!).
Katie Brannaghan and husband Ian, a dentist in Melbourne, purchased this property in 2017, and undertook some massive renovations to revive this modernist marvel. The house is now occasionally listed on airbnb, but act quickly if you are keen to stay – the lush green carpet and gently curving pool is mostly reserved for family getaways with the couple’s daughters Milla (12) and Yvie (9). The Fender weekender!
The Malvern East family home of Josh, Anastasia, Stella (4) and Reuben Elias (3) was already beautiful when purchased in 2017, but simplistic renovations over the years had stripped the interiors of character.
Walking through the updated home now, it’s not immediately obvious what is old, and what is new… but what is abundantly clear, is just how much love and care has been poured into renovating this beautiful family home. Not only have the couple succeeded in opening up the space to suit their young family’s lifestyle, they’ve instilled a more ‘lived-in’ feel through the use of recycled materials, relaxed furnishings, and by planting an enchanting garden.
The maximalist yet personal feel of Leila Sanderson and sound engineer Tony Espie‘s South Yarra apartment is something that can only be achieved over a long period of time… 12 years to be exact!
Leila and Tony have filled the art deco space with plenty of contrasting colour, ribbon rosettes made by Leila (aka Skinny, owner of Skinny Wolf), and foliage from her florist work with Katie Marx.
It’s a heartwarming space, which celebrates the history and style of its original architecture. And would you believe, it’s a rental?!
