Today we bring you the second instalment of our new travel column! Our tour guide on this occasion is architect, designer and big-ideas person Sarah King.

You may have heard of ‘Sarah K’ in connection with  her sustainable design initiative Supercyclers, or perhaps The Other Hemisphere, which showcases Australian design at various international design events, including the Salone del Mobile in Milan and design weeks in London and Tokyo. Sarah K is a dynamic do-er, and is devoted to preserving and sharing beauty – be it natural or thoughtfully man-made!

Having lived all over Australia, Sarah is now based in Moss Vale, and has recently converted a workshop on her property into a charming weekender called closed(work)shop, furnished with a beautiful edit of Australian design pieces.

Today, Sarah introduces us to her top spots in the NSW Southern Highlands, just over one-and-a-half hours drive south-west of Sydney, with stop-offs at Fitzroy Falls, Moss Vale and Bowral.

By now you may have noticed that we’ve recently begun sharing two stories with you each day. (YUP, 6.00am every morning and 2.00pm every afternoon… woah!). Expanding in this way has given us a chance to showcase even more amazing creative people and places, as well as delve into other lifestyle realms, from family to careers – stay tuned for more, when we’ll be rolling out a fresh new-look website in a couple of months time!

Today, though, we’re launching a fresh travel-focused regular column, authored by creatives you already know and love, who’ve invited us to parts of Australia that hold a special place for them.

We’re kicking off this new column today with a long standing TDF favourite – artist, Mum and passionate tree-changer Elizabeth Barnett! The ever-gracious artist gives her day-trip guide to the Macedon Ranges, which is just a one-hour drive north of Melbourne.

We are excited today to launch a brand new content series, in partnership with Olympus. ‘Through My Eyes’ is a four part series of photo essays, authored by four talented Australian creatives from very different disciplines, and different walks of life.

We’re kicking the series off with someone who should need no introduction. Sean Fennessy is our longest serving collaborator – a seriously talented Melbourne photographer whose clients include Monocle, Wallpaper*, Vogue Living and Nowness to name a few. Sean has recently returned from a trip to Japan, where he created a series of photos using the new Olympus PEN-F camera. We’re super chuffed to share them with you today.

“What’s this.. another house?” I hear you say. ‘Why, but it’s THURSDAY!? Has the world gone mad? Am I experiencing some kind of Groundhog Day where Wednesday happens TWICE in one week!?’

No, no, rest assured it is most definitely Thursday, however today’s story is not a straightforward ‘Australian Home’. It is in its own category, you see, because this unique house in Belgrave, just 45 minutes east of Melbourne, is an inspired creative side project for serial creative entrepreneur Jeremy Wortsman and his partner, writer Lorelei Vashti. It’s called Jacky Winter Gardens, and it’s much more than just a very cute house.

I hope we have managed to capture the sheer blissful happiness of the Wright/Fitzgerald family in these photos, because visiting this home was just such a relaxed and utterly delightful experience, I am not sure we could ever do it justice.

Essentially, Ozzie Wright (pro surfer / artist / musician and co-owner and creative director of Vampirate Surfboards) and Mylee Grace Fitzgerald ( songstress of Mylee Grace and the Milkshakes and co-owner of Arcade vintage boutique) are just two of the MOST completely chilled out people I have ever met.  It is quite incredible, and, I hope, contagious.
