We get to see our fair share of excellent interior design projects here at TDF. And the lineup for this year’s shortlisted projects in the TDF + Laminex Design Awards 2020 has got us feeling pretty pumped! The quality of residential projects coming from Australian designers never fails to blow us away.
Supported by De’Longhi, the Interior Design category received 75 entries this year! This has now been narrowed down to 14 of the very best, with projects coming from a nice mix of both emerging and established practices.
With the final call in the hands of our judges Miriam Fanning (Mim Design), Juliette Arent (Arent & Pyke) and Chelsea Hing (Chelsea Hing), here are the projects that represent interior design excellence across the country over the past year.
Right now across Australia there are dozens of churches sitting idle, just waiting for an enthusiastic owner to transform them.
This is the story of The Church at Lyonville, which was deconsecrated in the 1950s, then converted into a residence in the early 2000s.
When this property went up for sale in 2017, Sasha and Tim von Ess jumped at the chance to purchase it as their holiday home. When they’re not there spending quality time with their kids Drew (11) and Audrey (8), they rent it out as short-term accommodation.
Nestled between the Southern Highlands and the New South Wales South Coast is Kangaroo Valley, a two hour drive from Sydney. In this lush idyllic location surrounded by rainforest and waterfalls is The Casa, an accommodation offering from Suzy and Nick O’Rourke, the couple behind The Shed in Gerroa (see our feature on that spot here!).
With interiors transformed by Suzy herself, this Mediterranean-style farmhouse is one dream holiday spot!
Back in 2018 we shared the pint-sized North Melbourne home of Josh and Jenna Densten. This home remains in the hands of the couple today, but is now joined by a new, larger family house right behind the original tiny weatherboard home!
The designers and seasoned renovators (you probably remember them from their days on The Block!) worked with Foomann Architects to bring this project to life.
The result is a seriously stunning and calming space, offering the comfort and tranquility of a day spa, with the practicality to suit a young family of four!
