Full of power

Substance. That’s what makes author Gena Hamshaw’s work so special. Spend even a few minutes on her blog, The Full Helping, and you’ll see what we mean. Whether she’s sharing a recipe, a new study on food and health or a gentle reflection on life’s harder edges, she brings a lot more to the table than good food.
Of course, good food is the primary focus—and for proof of just how good, look no further than her latest cookbook, Power Plates. It’s full of nutritionally sound plates (and bowls!) of plant-based tastiness. Every dish balances the macronutrients you need in an easy, math- and stress-free way.
In short: This is a cookbook we are definitely here for. To prove it, we’re sharing three of our fave recipes from it. We’re also sharing some of Gena’s nutritional insights—because they, like her food, have a whole lot of substance to them.

Recipes

Stuffed Collard Leaves with Pomegranate Dipping Sauce

Sesame Citrus Soba Salad

Sweet Potato Nacho Fries

Some of our fave posts on Gena’s blog, thefullhelping.com, are her “Weekend Reading” posts. (Full disclosure: we’re pretty nerdy.) She rounds up recipes from other visionary bloggers, plus a range of studies and articles on everything from IBS to making pregnancy safer for women of color. She recently highlighted a profile of a man who made violins from NYC’s demolished buildings! She’s vegan, but her reading tastes are definitely omnivorous.
